Directions for how to configure your Wharton account in Mac Mail to access your Wharton email, calendar, and contacts.

These directions apply to students with Google@Wharton accounts who are using the Mavericks or Yosemite OS.  MacMail is not recommended for use with a Google@Wharton account with previous OSs.For directions on configuring MacMail for all other Apple OSs, see our MacMail Knowlegebase Article.

Configuring Mac Mail

  1. Open Mail, then click Mail from the top left corner and click Preferences.
  2. In the newly opened window, press the “+” symbol at the bottom left and select Add Other Mail Account
  3. Enter your email as well as the newly created password from earlier.
  4. You will receive a notice that settings need to be configured manually, choose Next
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
    • User Name: yourusername@wharton.upenn.edu
    • Password:    Your new password
  6. Press “Next”, then use the following settings for outgoing:
    • Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Username: yourusername@wharton.upenn.edu
    • Password:  Your new password
  7. Press Create

Subscribing to Wharton Courses Feeds in iCal

A few points to know about calendar subscriptions:

  • They automatically update when the course information changes
  • You can NOT edit them
  • They will NOT sync automatically with other calendar devices. For example, if you subscribe to your course calendar using Mac Mail, you will have to subscribe again on your mobile device.
  1. Log in to SPIKE and click on the Courses tab.
  2. Click on the link "Get Courses Calendar Feeds".
  3. Copy the Course Calendar subscription URL:

  4. Open iCal and choose subscribe from the Calendar menu.
  5. Paste the URL that you copied from SPIKE and click Subscribe.

Subscribing to Wharton Events Feeds in iCal

A few points to know about calendar subscriptions:

  • They automatically update when the course information changes
  • You can NOT edit them
  • They will NOT sync auatomatically with other calendar devices. For example, if you subscribe to your course calendar using Mac Mail, you will have to subscribe again on your mobile device.
  1. Log in to SPIKE and click on the Calendar tab.
  2. Click on "Calendar Feeds" and then choose "Event Feeds".


  3. Select whatever Events tag you would like to subscribe to. For example, if you want to know about all MBA events then select the MBA tag or if you want to know about all Undergraduate events select the UGR tag. You can subscribe to multiple event feeds by following these directions again for each events tag.



  4. Choose subscribe to Events Calendar and then copy the URL that is in the gray box.



  5. Open iCal and choose subscribe from the Calendar menu.
  6. Paste the URL that you copied from SPIKE and click Subscribe.
